Happy Seventh Birthday to Dino!

Happy Seventh Birthday to Dino!

Six years ago on this day, Dino was brought to my apartment in Hayward by Georgette Musante with Grateful Dogs Rescue, and he stayed forever.

Since then we have spent almost 24 hours a day with each other, and completed so much, traveling all over California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico.

He is enjoying a big rawhide bone now and still sleeping in bed.

After 13 years, 2012 was the first year that AKC allowed Mixed Breeds to enter the ACE Awards!

Search and Rescue — Dino — owned by Jackie Phillips of San Leandro, CA

Dino has been working full time throughout Northern California as a tracking dog to find lost pets since January 2009. He has worked 350 cases and made multiple finds of both alive and deceased animals. His tracking efforts have also led to many clues that resulted in pets being found following the search. In April, Dino took only 30 minutes to find a dog that had been missing for more than two days in San Francisco.

Dino originally had been surrendered to the San Francisco animal shelter and had been slated for euthanasia after being labeled "untrainable and out of control." Luckily, Grateful Dog Rescue thought differently and saved him. Jackie adopted him three months later and today Dino has many achievements in addition to his life-saving search and rescue skills. Officially known as Woodland's Court Jester UD RAE, Dino is the first mixed-breed to earn the AKC's Rally Advanced Excellent title and the second mixed-breed to earn the Utility Dog title.

Dino Earns Mixed Breed Rally All Stars!

A dog becomes a Rally All Star if they have earned the highest level of title offered by the Mixed Breed Club or equivalent titles offered by AKC, UKC, or ASCA (RAE), or by:

Earning 99 or over on first three legs for any Rally title (not including non-regular classes)
Earning 100 on any three consecutive rally legs (i.e. second and third leg RN, first leg RA, etc.)

Dino was the first Mixed Breed to earn the

AKC RAE (Rally Advanced Excellent) Title!

Earning 200 on any three consecutive obedience legs (i.e. last leg CD, first and second leg CDX, etc.)

Dino is the second Mixed Breed to earn the

UD (Utility Dog) AKC title!
